Winner of the Van Cleave Law Striving for Justice Scholarship for 2025

About the Striving for Justice Scholarship

The Striving for Justice Scholarship was established by Van Cleave Law to recognize students who demonstrate strength, integrity, and a commitment to helping others overcome adversity. Rooted in our firm’s mission to advocate for those facing challenges or injustice, this scholarship honors individuals who are working to create meaningful, positive change in their communities.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational program, maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and submit an original essay describing how they have worked to support others facing discrimination, hardship, or injustice. Each year, the scholarship attracts applicants who share powerful stories of resilience and purpose, and who embody the spirit of the program through their actions and character.

This year, we received a record number of applications, making the selection process both inspiring and highly competitive. Among the many impressive submissions, one stood out as truly exceptional.

Announcing Our 2024 Scholarship Winner: Pauline Atilite

Van Cleave Law is proud to announce Pauline Atilite as the recipient of the 2024 Striving for Justice Scholarship.

Each year, this scholarship honors a student who exemplifies resilience, compassion, and a dedication to advancing justice. Pauline distinguished herself through her perseverance, her advocacy for accessibility and inclusivity, and her clear commitment to making a lasting impact in her community.

A Journey of Strength, Purpose, and Advocacy

Pauline is a single mother of two, balancing her academic goals with the responsibilities of work and parenthood—including caring for her daughter who has special needs. Her journey is marked by persistence, sacrifice, and a profound sense of purpose. Rather than allowing her challenges to limit her, Pauline has used them as inspiration to support others and to champion greater accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

Her advocacy begins in her own community, where she works to raise awareness about accessibility issues and to support improvements across local facilities, schools, and public events. Her personal experiences have shaped a powerful mission to ensure that individuals with diverse needs are able to participate fully and independently in daily life.

Pauline’s dedication extends into the field of technology, where she hopes to contribute to the development of assistive technologies that help individuals with disabilities overcome everyday barriers. She also mentors young women and students from underrepresented backgrounds who aspire to pursue careers in STEM, offering encouragement, guidance, and support as they navigate their own educational journeys.

In addition to her advocacy and mentorship work, Pauline has self-published a series of children’s books titled Guess and Learn, designed for young readers with developmental and learning delays. Her books promote diversity, inclusion, and community, and reflect her commitment to helping all children feel supported, represented, and empowered.

We were deeply moved by Pauline’s story, her accomplishments, and her unwavering determination to build a brighter future for her family while contributing to a more equitable and inclusive society. Her work reflects the values at the heart of the Striving for Justice Scholarship, and she is a truly deserving recipient of this year’s award.
We are honored to support Pauline as she continues her educational journey, and inspired by the compassion, leadership, and determination she brings to everything she does. We look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make in her community and beyond.

Congratulations to Pauline!
