Lauren Forney Wins the 2023 Van Cleave Law Striving for Justice Scholarship!

We are thrilled to announce Lauren Forney is the recipient of the 2023 Van Cleave Law Striving for Justice Scholarship. Lauren, a sophomore at Spelman College in Atlanta who is majoring in Health Science, exemplifies an unwavering dedication to advocating for positive change within her community and beyond. Lauren’s experience shows there are many opportunities in our communities to take action to improve the lives of those in need.

Lauren’s dedication to service began early. She progressed from crafting fans for the elderly members of her church to launching a Teddy Bear Campaign to donate bears to ailing children by the time she was five years old. Lauren organized a Loose Change Art Show to raise money for a local charity, and kicked off what became an annual canned food drive in her neighborhood when she was in the third grade. At the age of 12, Lauren founded her own nonprofit service organization, Lauren’s Community Service Academy, through which she collaborated with like-minded students from all over Texas to launch and oversee a wide range of service initiatives.

Lauren’s passion to serve the elderly led her to launch the “Serving Our Elders” program at her school, and to spearhead an annual Warm Scarf Campaign, through which hundreds of scarfs are delivered to seniors, warming both their bodies and their hearts. Lauren also saw a need to assist those in her own age group, and launched the “On the Run to College Series,” through which she collaborated with college professors, scholarship experts, and a panel of college students and recent college graduates to illuminate opportunities for her classmates to pursue college educations and have positive college experiences.

Lauren also found time to serve the homeless, and launched an initiative to solicit donations, and assemble hundreds of care packages for a local homeless shelter. Lauren continues that endeavor in college, working to provide meals for the homeless on Sundays. Lauren’s service record includes organizing initiatives to feed and supply those impacted by a devastating hurricane, and initiatives dedicated to keeping seniors connected during the pandemic.

Lauren’s journey is a testament to the power of individual commitment to drive positive change. Despite facing challenges, including a life-altering stroke during her senior year of high school, Lauren’s determination has only grown stronger. Her efforts have not only made a significant impact in her community, but also inspired others to become servant leaders.

Van Cleave Law is honored to support Lauren Forney in her educational endeavors and looks forward to seeing the continued impact of her advocacy work. Congratulations, Lauren, on this well-deserved recognition of your hard work and dedication to striving for justice.

Congratulations, Lauren!
